What a week it has been around here! Last week started with one of my girls breaking her arm and it just set the tone for the whole week. Thankfully she is on the road to recovery and this week has been a lot more chill.

When we have a crazy week I just love being able to pull some pre-made (and homemade!) items from the freezer and make up quick meals. These english muffins are perfect for freezing and then pulling out on a crazy day or just on a day you aren’t in a cooking mood.

Sourdough Buttermilk Biscuits

Does anyone else start making one sourdough recipe and then get carried away and end up making like 4? I tend to do that on a weekend if we have nothing going on I’ll start sourdoughing (I made up a new word!) and stop only once I’ve run out of starter to work with.

That’s what happened the day I made these biscuits. I started with english muffins (recipe coming soon!) and then I got to making crackers and biscuits too. Time spent in the kitchen is therapeutic to me so that was such a fun day for me!

I think everyone can tell how much I love sourdough these days. I’m always trying to sneak it into baked goods. And I mean ALWAYS!

Sourdough is just so much better for you than regular baked goods. I just like knowing it’s a little easier for the body to digest.

Homemade Creme Fraiche

This week I am taking a break from my sourdough recipes (don’t worry I have a lot more coming!) to share a recipe that I recently discovered. I have heard of creme fraiche but I had never tried it. I was reading this book called Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat and it mentioned creme fraiche in a recipe I wanted to try and after doing a little research I found out that it is super simple to make!

My how the summer is flying by! I can’t believe it’s almost over. Fall will be here in about a month and school starts in just a couple weeks! Our garden this year has been a great success. We’ve had a little trouble growing green beans in the past which has always been annoying because it’s a favorite vegetable in our house! Mostly the problem was due to the pesky cucumber beetles but our soil has needed some work as well.

If your house is anything like mine we’ve got a lot of football going on this time of year. And with football comes lots of what I like to call “football food.” That just means finger foods/appetizers. We often have people over to the house to watch games and it’s kinda fun to make a bunch of finger foods and enjoy the game together.

Buttermilk Biscuits

August 23, 2018 by Haley 3 Comments

Summer has gone away it seems. Yesterday was 95 and today I don’t think it has even hit 70 degrees and it’s almost 3:00 pm. I’ve felt freezing all day! Which I am fine with because I’m not much of a summer cook. Does anyone else have a hard time cooking in different seasons? In the summer I feel like it’s all about cold refreshing dinners and grilling.  I’m learning to grill better than I used to but I just get kind of tired of hamburgers, hot dogs, and pasta salad. I totally prefer cold weather for cooking. I like comfort foods and baking desserts! …
