Week 3 was really fun with our family/friends theme. Anything that focuses on family is a win in my book though. 🙂 Along with our assignments I made sure to mention different relationships as they came up in conversation during the week just to add a little more theme related material.
For nature study we read pages 100-101 in our nature connection workbook. The book outlined how to draw different mammals and Scarlett decided to draw a cat.
For geography we did our assignments on pages 25-29. I read through the directions and then Scarlett does the work. I like how this is getting her familiar with question and answer assignments and it’s also teaching her very simple geography. It’s not like a typical geography study, and that may just be because it is for the kindergarten age group, but I like how it is starting out and I am looking forward to seeing her progress.
For science we did this exploring fingerprints activity. Scarlett enjoyed getting messy with the ink of course! I wasn’t able to find a magnifying glass when I went to the store for supplies so we did without and I didn’t feel like it was necessary. We also watched this video on fingerprints on Youtube.
For art we made this family tree craft. The ink didn’t show up as much as I would have liked even though it was a brand new ink pad. If I would have thought about it more I probably would have just used some green paint instead.
For reading we learned the sight words So, Get, and Like. We read This is My Family and Pooh Goes Visiting and Pooh and Piglet Nearly Catch a Woozle. Both were great reads. Sometimes Scarlett has a hard time sitting through Winnie the Pooh books so sometimes we have to split the reading into shorter sessions. I do have to say Winnie the Pooh books are quite a bit longer and harder to read than most other kids books but they are classics and I just love them.
Scarlett wrote out her sight words for handwriting. She isn’t fighting me on handwriting like she used to. She is getting a lot faster at it as well.
Finally, for math we did our Mickey Mouse math workbook and our morning starters workbook from the Dollar Tree. For our math activity we did this I Spy unicorn printable. Scarlett loved it, with all those unicorns! Our printer is showing it’s age recently and so the colors were a bit off from what they should have been but we made it work.
