I just can’t believe how fast this school year is going by. I feel like these recaps of our weeks just come around so quickly. I am really enjoying homeschooling with Scarlett and this term has been so much fun, but I think I may be even more excited for next term. I’m going through and putting the final touches on our Winter term and I will be posting that soon so stay tuned for that! 🙂
This week our theme was the arctic. Scarlett is always enjoying learning about different animals and their environments so as we learned about how animals keep warm in the arctic and read Puffin Peter she was interested as ever!
For art we made our own snow. I will say this was a very messy activity but both of the girls just had so much fun that I think it was worth it. Scarlett actually played with it randomly throughout the whole day.
For music we are still listening to Mozart.
For math we did our normal math worksheet, penguin color match activity, and don’t feed the raccoon math game. The penguin color match was so adorable!
For reading we read The Tale of the Flopsy Bunnies from our Beatrix Potter book and we watched a video on Youtube for the Puffin Peter book. I kind of dropped the ball on ordering Puffin Peter. Got so distracted with all the Christmas stuff going on! We also learned the sight words But, At, and With. I started this game where I show Scarlett a sight word and then she spells it with our refrigerator letter magnets. It’s been pretty fun and she seems to like it.
For handwriting we practiced the number 6-8. Scarlett has also been writing her name everywhere! Maybe even a few places it shouldn’t have been written… I guess no one will wonder who the rocking horse belongs to.
Finally, for science we did this arctic animal experiment. I didn’t have shortening on hand so we used coconut oil. It did not work out as well as the shortening would have but it did work. I just didn’t want a whole tub of shortening in the cupboard that wouldn’t get used so I wanted to use something we already had.
Next week is our final week of the fall term then we will be on Christmas break for 2 weeks. I’m excited to have some time to visit with family and relax but like I said earlier in this post I am totally excited about winter term!
