We are back to school after our Thanksgiving break! It was such a relaxing and enjoyable time that it was hard to get back to the routine but I do like having a regular schedule. Once we got started it was all good 😀
Nature study was pretty much non-existent last week. The weather was really wet and windy and neither of the girls wanted to stay out for more than 10 minutes at a time. This week is dry and sunny so hopefully the kids will want to be outside more! They do seem to have a lot better moods when we can play outside.
Art this week was this cute peas in a pod craft to go along with our nutrition theme. We also made this healthy snack. You just slice up some bananas and freeze them. Then spread on a little peanut butter and make them into little sandwiches and dip them in dark chocolate. Super tasty!
For music we started our study of Mozart. It’s just so nice listening to all of these classical composers throughout our day. It’s not distracting but you notice it enough to appreciate it.
For reading this week we read The Ugly Duckling and The Tale of Tom Kitten from our Beatrix Potter book. We also learned the words He, Was, and That. Scarlett really enjoyed the books this week. As we read The Ugly Duckling I could tell she was so sad that the little duck wasn’t loved but she really enjoyed the ending when he found his swan family. I love being able to see her feel different emotions as she gets older.
For math we did our weekly math worksheet and then these count and clip fruit and veggie cards. I lost my clothespin that I had for these count and clip cards so I just had Scarlett point to the answers.
For science we did this great egg experiment. We used grape juice, water, and Powerade. This was great to do this week because we did end up going to the dentist for checkups during the week. Scarlett was shocked at what sugar and juice can do to your teeth and we came to the conclusion that water is the best to drink. WIN!
History this week we finished up our little Oregon book. I think for the rest of the term we will just do our own research about facts about Oregon and then start a new book next term. I did find one for next term that focuses on the United States.
Finally, for handwriting we reviewed the numbers 1 and 2. This last week Scarlett has been writing her name all over and I’m working with her spelling different words with our refrigerator letter magnets. I am so excited over this!
This term is so close to being over and I love how we are figuring out what works for us and what doesn’t. Next term will be slightly different but I really like most of what we have been doing. See ya next week!
