This week was soooo much fun! Our theme last week was dinosaurs and needless to say it was a big hit in our house. The girls also got to spend some time at Nana and Papa’s last week on Thursday and Friday so we did all of the school work for the week by the time they left on Thursday morning. Really wasn’t that big of a deal since it just meant we missed one day of school and they both had so much fun. They came back in amazing moods and I got a ton of things checked off my to-do list. Win-win!
I’m going to be honest, nature study has been a bit of a challenge since the weather got so cold last week. We do go outside but it’s hard to do much of a study because studying usually means standing still which means we all freeze our butts off so we’ve just been enjoying the outdoors in little bits and that might just be how things go until spring time. We are still reading in our nature book though!
For art last week we made this tissue paper dinosaur and had this yummy dinosaur dirt treat. I didn’t get any oreos like the recipe called for. I just layered homemade chocolate pudding (I made my honey pudding and I added 2-3 T of cocoa powder) and then I topped the pudding with broken up graham crackers and a toy dinosaur. The kids loved dipping the dinosaurs into the pudding!
Math last week was our normal math worksheet, these dinosaur number puzzles, and the counting action dice game. The dinosaur number puzzles were so cute. There were puzzles that went all the way up to 100 but we just focused on the puzzles through the number 20. Scarlett really enjoyed the dice game.
For handwriting we focused on learning the letters V, W, and X. I’m so excited seeing how much Scarlett is improving in her handwriting these days!
Reading last week we learned the new sight words Where, Away, and Here. We read The Story of a Fierce Bad Rabbit from our Beatrix Potter book. Last week we missed one of our books called The Giving Tree and I didn’t get to the library or order it in time so I was able to find it on Youtube! Same for the book Little Toot. I like having physical copies of the books but it is nice being able to find books when you don’t have them on hand.
For history we read a few pages out of our Oregon history book. It looks like we will finish this up right at the end of this term which is just perfect.
Science last week we did another baking soda/vinegar activity. This time it was dinosaurs in lava to go with the theme this week. Scarlett probably spent about an hour dropping the vinegar onto the baking soda. Lots of fun!

I love it! Dinosaurs are always a big hit. We had fun spending time with the girls too!
