I’m going to be honest, last week was a mess. It started out well with doing our school work but we had something come up and, in the end, we didn’t even do any of our schoolwork on Friday. I felt really guilty but you know, that’s the great thing about homeschooling, it’s so flexible! So we will catch up this week with anything we need to and then move on.
Nature study this week was looking at rocks and figuring out what types we could find in our backyard. Scarlett LOVES rocks and has a pretty big collection already so she was totally into doing this activity.
Music this week we got to start listening to Tchaikovsky. Again, I am enjoying this part of school so much. So many beautiful songs and now I know what composer is behind each of them.
Art was fun and messy! We did this yarn pumpkin project. It was a lot of fun but Scarlett didn’t like the glue all over her fingers so much so she did about half of the pumpkins and I helped finish them up. They turned out looking so cute!
Handwriting we worked on S and T. We should have done the letter U on Friday but it didn’t happen so we will do that this week. Scarlett is really improving on handwriting. She was writing letters in an activity book the other day and she has come such a long way.
Science this week was a 2 liter monster experiment. We’ve done quite a few baking soda/vinegar chemical reaction projects but this was really neat to see the gas blow up the balloon. I should have drawn the face on the balloon after it was blown up but I thought it would be cool to see the face get bigger as the balloon expanded. It kind of disappeared though.
History we read a few pages out of our Oregon book. We are learning about the different Native American tribes that live in Oregon right now.
For math this week we did our week 8 math worksheet and then we did this googly eye monster activity. I found this monster printable and Scarlett wanted to color it. Then we just rolled the dice and then put googly eyes on the monster to match what we rolled. We didn’t do the counting action dice game on Friday so we’ll definitely be doing it this week. I’m really seeing Scarlett improve on her counting and number recognition.
Reading we learned the words Big, Me, and Come. We read The Tale of Jeremy Fisher from our Beatrix Potter book and we should have read The Giving Tree but we didn’t get to it on Friday so we will have an extra book to read this week.
Hoping for a little less crazy week this next week. 🙂
