We are now just finishing our second cold of the season. Cold/flu season is definitely in full swing! Despite being sick Scarlett still did great with her schoolwork this week. The theme was bones and the body. Scarlett has been very fascinated with how our bodies work and what’s on the inside where she can’t see.
As always we started out every day with a devotional, bible study and prayer during breakfast. Then I turned on the composer we are studying. This is our last week of Beethoven and next week we will be listening to Tchaikovsky. It really has been nice listening to this as we do our morning routine. It’s relaxing and it doesn’t distract anyone.
Nature study this week was kind of a recap/review of what we learned earlier this month/season. I didn’t realize the last section of October was review and not a lot of new material. We did spend some time outside but it did rain a bit and the girls had a cold so it was hard to want to leave the cozy house.
For art we did a play dough skeleton activity. Turns out that the art and science projects that I planned for this week were a lot alike so we did a little something different for science. This was such a great activity. Scarlett thought my demonstrations (not pictured :D) of why bones are important were hilarious. I thought her pegged legged cyclops was pretty funny as well.
Math this week started out with our normal worksheet for week 7. Then we did a roll and grab bones dice activity and smack the number counting game. We used two dice this time around and Scarlett really impressed me with adding up the numbers. I found these large foam dice at the Dollar Tree.
Reading we learned the new sight words See, Not, and My. We also read The Tale of the Pie and the Pattie-Pan from our Beatrix Potter collection and One Morning in Maine. Scarlett loved both of the stories this week. Still doing well at summarizing what I have read to her.
Handwriting we practiced P, Q, and R. I am getting so excited about Scarlett learning how to write and read!
Science had to be changed a little this week. I didn’t realize the activities for art and science were so much alike when I planned everything out. So I ended up googling info for kids on bones. I found this printable and I read it to Scarlett. Then we talked about what different foods have a lot of calcium in them and how it is important to get enough calcium in our diets to have strong bones. We also watched this cute video to go with our theme.
History we read another small section out of our Oregon book. Scarlett wasn’t very interested in it this week but she wasn’t feeling too good by the time we got to it so I’ll blame it on that!

Sounds like a very good week!
