We just finished week 5 of our homeschool year. The weeks and days just fly by so incredibly fast. I see my little Scarlett learning so much and realize she is becoming such a smart and independent little girl. I’m enjoying every single day of seeing her grow up. Sure I miss some of the little baby days but I’m not sad over my little girl growing up. 🙂
We started out every day like we always do with our devotional, bible story, and prayer. Then we turn on the composer for the week and listen to as much as we can throughout the morning. I like to just take the morning slow in a way. I want to be productive, and I feel like we are, but the more I try and rush the girls around the less productive we are so every day is a little different pace. I’d say we are done by about 8:30 every day with this part of our day.
Nature study this week we studied bulbs. We have quite a few bulbs in our yard so we went digging and found one. My plan was to plant it and watch it grow up this spring in a new spot but shortly after I took this picture the bulb got broken in half so we’ll have to go looking for another one to replant!
For art we did a little food art! We made these little traffic light snacks to go with our safety theme for the week. They were cute, healthy, and easy. The kids gobbled these right up!
For handwriting this week we went over the letters J, K, and L. I really had to encourage Scarlett this week for handwriting. She really just doesn’t enjoy it but I know she needs to learn it at some point so we are pushing through it!
For math we did our math worksheet, these number puzzles, and the smack the number counting game. All of these were a huge hit. I think next week with the smack the number game we will use 2 dice to make it a little more challenging.
For reading we went over her new sight words Is, Go, and We. We read The Tale of Two Bad Mice from our Beatrix Potter book and Corduroy. Scarlett really enjoys summarizing the stories after I read them to her.
For science we did the science of fire experiment. Scarlett enjoyed this and it gave us a chance to talk a little bit about fire safety. These little candles we used were some we had left over from a birthday party and they sparkled like sparklers. Kinda fun. We squirted out the flame many times with the squirt bottle!

Lastly, for geography we read a few pages out of our Oregon book. Scarlett seems to really enjoy learning about where we live. She always wants to read this even when we aren’t working on it for school.
