I love using buttermilk in recipes. It makes some of the best biscuits and pancakes. I read an article some time ago that told how to make your own buttermilk so you would always have some on hand. I’ve been doing it this way ever since! You just have to make sure to always set aside ¼ cup of buttermilk for the next batch and you will never run out.
All you need to do is put ¼ cup of buttermilk in a quart size mason jar. Fill up the rest with milk. I prefer to use whole milk but you can use 2%. Place a lid on the jar and shake it up so it’s well mixed. Leave it on the counter until the desired consistency is achieved, which is typically anywhere from 12-24 hours. It all depends on what the temperature of your house is. I had one occasion where the house was quite chilly and it took about 30 hours. Store in the fridge and make sure to reserve ¼ cup for your next batch!
