Okay so I never thought tuna patties would ever be something I would write a blog post on. Up until about 6 months ago I had never tried them and honestly it’s not exactly the kind of dish I thought anyone would really like. I tried out a recipe because I hand’t thawed out any meat for dinner one night (okay okay so that’s pretty much every night…) and they turned out pretty good so I made them again with some tweaking and they are now one of my go to dinners. Both of my girls love them and I think they are pretty tasty as well.
I am awful at getting meat out from the freezer and having it thawed by dinner time. I usually think at 4:00 pm every day that, “hmmmm maybe I should figure out a meal for dinner?” So this is one of those dishes that I can make without having to thaw out meat in the microwave AND everyone likes them. Win win!
After you form into patties make sure to place them in the freezer for 10-15 minutes. I’ve tried skipping that step and it’s hard to keep the patties from falling apart as you flip them.
Crispy Tuna Patties
Ingredients
3-6 oz cans of tuna packed in water, drained
1 egg
½ cup breadcrumbs
¼ cup mayo
½ t ground mustard
½ t onion powder
salt & pepper
avocado or coconut oil for frying
Mix all of the ingredients and form into patties. Put on a plate and freeze for 10-15 minutes. Heat oil over medium heat and add in the patties. Fry until golden brown, ~3 minutes then flip. Remove once second side is browned and place on a paper towel lined plate. Serve warm.
Note: Don’t skip the freezing step! Otherwise you might end up with patties falling apart when you go to flip them. Not speaking from experience or anything…
